The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, launched on 15th February 2024 by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to provide free electricity to 1 crore households across India.
Under this scheme, households can install rooftop solar panels with subsidies of up to 40% of total cost. This initiative promotes energy savings, reduces dependency on the grid, and contributes to a greener India.

Subsidy Details

Eligibility
- Applicant must be an Indian citizen.
- Household must own a rooftop suitable for solar panels.
- Must have a valid electricity connection.
- Should not have availed other solar subsidies earlier.
Application Process
- Visit the official portal and register with state, DISCOM, consumer number, and mobile.
- Login and apply for rooftop solar installation.
- Await feasibility approval from DISCOM.
- Install panels via registered vendors.
- Apply for net meter and inspection.
- Submit commissioning details and bank account info.
- Subsidy credited to bank account within 30 days.
Documents Required
- Proof of identity (Aadhar / PAN / Voter ID).
- Proof of address.
- Recent electricity bill.
- Roof ownership certificate.
